Daruma Lucky God Doll for encouragement and goal setting - Zen Buddhist tradition.
Made in Japan, the Daruma Lucky God also known as a Dharma
doll, is a hollow, round, Japanese doll
modelled on Bodhidharma*, the founder of the Zen Buddhism.
Daruma dolls are rich in symbolism and regarded as a talisman of good luck to the Japanese. They are frequently found displayed in Zen Buddhist temples and/or sold there to raise funds for the establishment. They are also seen as a symbol of perseverance making them a popular gift of encouragement and commonly used alongside goal setting.
Traditionally thought to grant wishes if you follow this procedure on getting your Daruma. Both eyes are left blank on making the doll. On deciding upon your goal or making a wish, fill in one the in one of the eyes. Keep the Daruma on display and when goal or wish has been achieved, fill in the other eye to thank the Daruma for helping you or granting your wish!
