How to choose Incense?

Listening to Japanese Incense | Vectis Karma are Japanese Incense Specialist | Online Incense Shop

There are many different types of incense that you can choose from. Some scents are more spiritual, while others are more for relaxation. You'll have to decide what type of scent you would like to experience and then find the corresponding incense for that smell.

A lot of cultures use incense during prayers and ceremonies. In the modern era incense has become less about prayer and ceremony and more about personal preference. Now incense is used for relaxation, to make your space smell nice and even to get rid of pests.

There is a wide range of incense to pick from a few examples are Indian Incense, Japanese Incense and Tibetan Incense.

Indian Incense

This type of incense is usually made from a blend of fragrant plants and herbs, such as sandalwood or agarwood. These incenses are often used in ceremonies or rituals because they're considered to be very spiritual in nature. Indian Incense comes in stick form, cones and dhoop sticks. Indian Incense sticks have a bamboo centre which is wrapped with the incense. some traditional indian incense are Sandalwood, Nag Champa, Jasmin, patchouli to name a few. Indian Incense also comes in unique blends to make to totally different scent. Why not try our premium Indian Incense from great brands like Pure Incense, Scent Space, Sacred Elephant, Temple of Incense, The Mother's India and Laughing Buddhha.

Japanese Incense

This type of incense is usually made from a blend of fragrant woods, such as sandalwood or cedarwood, which give off a light scent. These types of incenses are often used for relaxation purposes. Japanese incense normally comes in a stick form, the incense is rolled into thin sticks with no bamboo centre, the great advantage of this is less smoke and more of the scent you expect. A few traditional Japanese scents are Aloeswood, Cedarwood and sandalwood. Japanese incense has been around for hundreds of years, a few well established brands are Nippon Kodo, Shoyeido, Baieido and Kousaido. Japanese Incense is stepped in history and many of the incense have their own secret blends.

Tibetan

Tibetan incense is a form of incense that was originally created by Tibetan monks. It is made from various aromatic plants and herbs.

The term "incense" refers to the material that has been burned to produce a fragrant smoke, usually in order to make an offering to a deity or spirit in the context of prayer or meditation.

Tibetan incense is not as scented as Indian and Japanese Incense as it is used more for medicinal purposes. The herbs used are thought to have medicinal properties.

The best Japanese Hinoki sticks we know of now in stock

The best Japanese Hinoki sticks we know of now in stock

We now stock Baieido's Sawayka Hinoki Japanese Incense sticks - there is no better Hinoki fragrance available

Sawayaka Hinoki Japanese Incense sticks are a premium product, made from 100% essential oil from Japanese Hinoki Cypress trees. Hinoki Cypress trees are a very slow-growing evergreen tree, which is traditionally used to build temples in Japan. These Incense sticks are a tribute to the revered Hinoki Cypress Tree, and the very high-quality packaging reflects this well.

The essential oil in these sticks is special and rare as Japanese law means only Hinoki trees that have naturally fallen or died can be harvested.

The fragrance characteristics of pure Hinoki are quite complex. Two elements making up the essential oil are alpha-Pinene (α-Pinene) and Borneol. It is said that when alpha-Pinenes are inhaled, the brain produces alpha waves, which produce a feeling of well-being and relaxation. 'Listening to' or burning these sticks will enhance your meditation or mindfulness practices.
